The “24 steps” kata. This was called Nijushiho by Funakoshi Sensei, and it was first taught by Seisho Aragaki. This kata is thought to have its origins in one of the Dragon sub-styles. It is taken from a long form called “Kaisan”.
Niseishi Kata
1. Rei
2. Yoi (Close the feet into heisokudachi. Close the fists.)
3. Step the right foot back into hidari junzukidachi. At the same time, withdraw the right fist beside the chest and perform hidari shotei osae uke (palm press block.) The left hand ends even with the side of the chest with the fingers pointing up.
4. Perform migi gyakuzuki chudan while the left wrist straightens. The left palm will be touching the top of the right arm.
5. At the same time, move the left hand under the right arm, palm up, while bringing the left foot beside the right knee. Then tobi forward into hidari junzukidachi and perform a left forearm strike chudan. The left arm is parallel to the ground and the right fist is withdrawn beside the chest.
6. Withdraw the left fist beside the chest, pivot on the left foot 180 degrees counter clockwise into hidari yoko seisandachi, and perform awasezuki. The right hand performs seikenzuki while the left performs urazuki.
7. While bringing the right foot beside the left knee, perform morote nagashi sotouke. Then as the right foot sets forward into zenkutsudachi, perform morote tetsui uchi. The fists will be palm out, slightly lower than the shoulders.
8. Pivot 90 degrees counter clockwise into junzukidachi and perform hidari jodan uke. Then bring the left foot back into gyakuzukidachi and perform migi nagashi sotouke.
9. Pivot on the left foot while turning 90 degrees clockwise into shikodachi. At the same time, perform migi kake uke to the right.
10. Raise the right leg, then bring the right fist to the hip while performing migi sokuto geri to the right at knee level. Then, with a slight tobi movement to the right, set the right foot into shikodachi while performing hidari kagizuki.
11. Perform hidari kake uke to the left.
12. Raise the left leg, then bring the left fist to the hip while performing hidari sokuto geri to the left at knee level. Then, with a slight tobi movement to the left, set the left foot into shikodachi while performing migi kagizuki.
13. Withdraw the fists beside the chest, then step the right foot 45 degrees out into migi junzukidachi and perform shotei awasezuki with the left hand above the right.
14. Pivot on the right foot 180 degrees counter clockwise into hidari junzukidachi while performing migi haito jodan.
15. Bring the right foot to the left into heisokudachi and perform hidari haishu uchi into the right palm.
16. Step the left foot back, lean forward, and bring the left hand down and pull as if pulling an opponent’s ankle. At the same time, the right hand pushes as if pushing an opponent’s knee. (This push/pull movement is designed to throw an opponent.) Then, while the body is still bent down, perform morote zuki with the left hand above the right.
17. Straighten the body while facing 180 degrees counter clockwise into hidari neko ashi dachi. Perform hidari kake uke.
18. Step the right foot forward into migi junzukidachi and perform migi nagashi soto uke.
19. Turn the body to the left into shikodachi while performing migi gedan barai to the right. Then move the right foot slightly while turning to the right into migi tate seisandachi. At the same time, perform hidari gyakuzuki chudan.
20. Move the left foot into hidari neko ashi dachi while performing hidari kake uke. (This opponent is 135 degrees to the left of the previous opponent.)
21. Step the right foot forward into migi junzukidachi and perform migi nagashi soto uke.
22. Turn the body to the left into shikodachi while performing migi gedan barai to the right. Then move the right foot slightly while turning to the right into migi tate seisandachi. At the same time, perform hidari gyakuzuki chudan.
23. Move the left foot into hidari neko ashi dachi while performing hidari kake uke. (This opponent is 135 degrees to the left of the previous opponent.)
24. Step the right foot forward into migi junzukidachi and perform migi nagashi soto uke.
25. Turn the body to the left into shikodachi while performing migi gedan barai to the right. Then move the right foot slightly while turning to the right into migi tate seisandachi. At the same time, perform hidari gyakuzuki chudan.
26. Withdraw the left fist beside the chest, pivot on the left foot 135 degrees counter clockwise into hidari yoko seisandachi, and perform awasezuki. The right hand performs seikenzuki while the left performs urazuki.
27. While withdrawing the hands in front of the body, turn them so the left hand is above the right. Both palm heels should be touching each other. At the same time, move the left foot to the right into heisokudachi.
28. Yame (Move the fists down to your sides.)
